Decision Support

Electric utilities today face competing objectives of maintaining or improving reliability, reducing operating costs, and maximizing the life of the distribution assets they own. Whether working under performance-based or traditional rate methods, regulators are imposing reliability standards that force electric utilities to analyze and upgrade their networks.

OpCircuit DS incorporates years of electric industry experience and research on circuit and equipment reliability, including compound failure analyses, economic modeling and risk factors. Our software allows you to analyze electric distribution system reliability and allocate system-wide O&M program budgets and select optimal cost/reliability benefit circuit re-engineering projects. In addition to providing a repository for all historical outages, OpCircuit DS can acquire circuit reliability risk factors from any relational or spatial data source.

Using the Circuit/Equipment Analysis Wizard, users are able to auto-generate discrete project "envelopes" based on various criteria, including: default primary circuit configurations, equipment types, outage types, or manually using defined spatial envelopes. The Scenario Wizard enables pre-defined default and ad-hoc alternatives to be created for various types of projects, enabling the most cost-effective alternatives to be evaluated. The Multi-Project Analyzer contains powerful query, filter, sorting and analytical tools allowing users to evaluate candidate projects on a system-wide basis, and analyze reliability program effectiveness.

Use OpCircuit DS to:
Provide a consistent framework to evaluate and quantify SAIDI, SAIFI and CAIDI across the network
Analyze reliability/cost benefit metrics for various project alternatives
Reduce the total cost of asset ownership
Determine optimal system-wide re-engineering strategies for all circuit types
Create reliability projects for analysis based on spatial and non-spatial circuit types
Assess and rank projects using discounted cash flow methods
